The Triumph Stag looks (and sounds) just as good today
as it did when it was launched. Will you feel the same about your Mondeo, Focus ,Vectra, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Skyline, Evo etc
etc. in 20 years time, when the computer memory fades and there are
no replacement chips available, I wonder?
- 1972 Mk1-2, current owner since May 1988. Always kept in a garage
and under cover since rebuild.
- Plenty of history and bills. Costs around £120 to insure with full
NCD (Classic scheme).
- Mimosa yellow with chestnut trim. No rust in bodywork;
underside was painted with stone-chip, not undersealed.
- Original Triumph alloy wheels (plus two
new spares)
- Stainless steel exhaust - worth the price for the sound of the exhaust note alone.
- Speedo replaced a couple of owners before I got it, so no continuous record of true mileage.
Probably around 80k, but
irrelevant as this was rebuilt around 15k miles ago. MOT to September.
- Original V8 rebuilt and running sweetly
(overhauled in last 10k miles)
- Carbs rebuilt last year; fuel line re-routed as per Stag owner folk
lore, to reduce famous Stag vapour lock.
- Original 4 speed manual + overdrive (overhauled in last 10k miles)
- About the only "mods" are a Kenlowe fan, and the essential
electronic ignition
- No hard top - but comes with the trim and glass for a hardtop.
- Black mohair soft top (almost new); hood frame all present and
correct.
- Rebuilt from bare metal; any new panels that were used were zinc
plated (this is my second Stag project - I learned not to skimp from the first!)
-
Around £1000 worth of service parts, manuals and misc. spares
that includes fabulous new walnut veneer interior wood trim (complete) waiting to be fitted.
-
Are there any niggles? Interior trim could usefully
be refurbished (with veneer above): the seat covers are tired but
serviceable. The (new) carpets are not glued down (I was going to wire
in a fancy stereo until the existing £50 radio was stolen...)
-
Remember, virtually all Stag parts are still available from
Rimmer and others.
Included all spares
workshop manuals, parts lists etc.
